Anhui, Maryland discuss future cooperation while celebrating 40th friendship anniversary

Anhui and Maryland jointly celebrated the 40th anniversary of the sister state relationship between the two through video connection on February 4. Li Jinbin, secretary of the CPC Anhui Provincial Committee, Larry Hogan, governor of Maryland, Cui Tiankai, Chinese ambassador to the United States, and Lin Songtian, president of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, attended the launching ceremony and delivered speeches respectively. Wang Qingxian, deputy secretary of the provincial Party committee and governor of Anhui, exchanged souvenirs with Governor of Maryland Larry Hogan on line.

 

After the launching ceremony, the two sides held a dialogue meeting on the future friendly cooperation between Anhui and Maryland. Zhang Xi, vice governor of Anhui, Boyd K. Rutherford, lieutenant governor of Maryland, Jing Quan, deputy director general of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and John Wobensmith, Maryland secretary of State, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Yong Chenghan, director general of Anhui Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, Zhang Jian, director general of Anhui Provincial Department of Commerce, Kelly Schultz, Maryland secretary of commerce, Steve Drake and Mark Xu, respectively chairman and vice chairman of the Maryland-Anhui Sister State Committee, joined in the dialogue meeting on deepening pragmatic cooperation and strengthening friendly exchanges.

Besides Zhang Lifang, Qin Junfeng and Fan Zhonghou, deputy directors general of Anhui Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, about 100 representatives from relevant government departments, friendship associations, universities and enterprises of Anhui and Maryland, as well as those from the cities in Anhui and counties in Maryland attended the dialogue meeting.

Vice Governor of Anhui Zhang Xi pointed out at the meeting that as Anhui and Maryland share a high degree of industrial fit and strong economic complementarity, we hopes for and will promote closer friendly exchanges, in-depth economic and trade cooperation, more scientific and educational exchanges and more colorful people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two sides in accordance with the memorandum on further deepening strategic cooperation between Anhui and Maryland signed by Secretary Li Jinbin and Governor Larry Hogan in 2017 and the consensus reached at that meeting.

At the meeting, the two sides watched together a short video film "Looking Forward to the Future" in both Chinese and English.
