Anhui athletes compete at 14th National Games

The 14th National Games kicked off in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on Wednesday.

The team of East China's Anhui province, consisting of 284 athletes, will be vying in 161 events across 24 sports. Eight among them have taken part in the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, including Wang Chunyu, who made history in Tokyo by becoming the first Chinese woman to run in an Olympic 800-meter final.

The athletes of Anhui have already won three golds and one bronze at the National Games, as some events took place before the opening ceremony.

Lai Xiaoxiao clinched the province's first gold medal at this year's National Games by winning the women's all-round martial arts routine event on September 2, Wang Xiaojing won a gold in the trap mixed team event on September 9, and Hu Kai bagged a gold in the men's 10m air pistol event on September 13. In addition, Zhu Lin won a bronze in the women's tennis singles on September 8.

Anhui will also compete for gold medals in aquatics, fencing, wrestling, boxing, karate and track and field.

Wang Chunyu will run in the women's 400 meters, 800 meters and 1,500 meters. She is the defending champion of the women's 800 meters.

Karate athlete Tang Lingling, boxer Shi Qian and the Anhui rowing team led by Cheng Xunman will compete for golds.
